Aerial Panoramas: Fort McMurray Fire Rebuild

Aerial panoramas of the Fort McMurray fire rebuild in Abasand, Beacon Hill, and Waterways

After the devastating Fort McMurray fire of 2016, the town has started the rebuild process. In order to document the progress of the rebuild, we’ve created a series of five aerial panoramas of the Abasand, Waterways, and Beacon Hill neighbourhoods.

Aerial Photo - Fort McMurray Fire RebuildWhich neighbourhoods did we photograph?

The three main neighbourhoods that we photographed are Abasand, Beacon Hill, and Waterways. Within Abasand, we created three panoramas including the east portion of Abasand near Highway 63, the west end of Hangingstone Place, and the north end of River View Heights near the Athabasca River.

What can you see?

Within each neighbourhood, you can see the existing buildings and homes that were not burned to the ground, and large white spaces where there were once buildings but currently nothing. There are also views of the new construction that has started in those three neighbourhoods, and expansive views of the surrounding forest area that was burned by the beast.
